Buying gifts for vegans can be pretty difficult.
But if you know they’re an athlete, that can give you a few extra ideas of what to give them.
I’ve come up with a list of gifts that I believe most vegan athletes would enjoy.
I’m not going to list general gifts for athletes (e.g. blender, foam roller, wireless headphones, gym bag, etc.), but instead I’ll focus on things where being vegan makes a difference.
Most vegans hate bringing up that they’re vegan, but at the same time would like to meet other vegans (see the problem?).
A good way for a vegan who goes to the gym to meet other vegans who share common interests is to wear a vegan t-shirt.
It doesn’t have to say “I’M A VEGAN!” on it, but something like “plant-powered” is a universal message that vegans recognize without feeling awkward about it.
2. Vegan Lifting Straps (or Gloves)
If the person you’re buying a gift for lifts fairly heavy (ask if they do deadlifts regularly), chances are they could use lifting straps (if they don’t already have them).
Many lifting straps are made from leather (not vegan), but you can get lifting straps made from vegan leather or a synthetic material.
Belts are useful if you want to do weighted pull ups or heavy squats.
But, most belts are made with leather. A good synthetic belt (i.e. vegan leather, nylon, etc.) can be a good gift for vegans.
4. Vegan Protein Powder
Okay, moving away from lifting gear.
Pretty much any vegan athlete can benefit from a little extra protein in their life.
Protein powder is a bit tricky, because everyone has their own taste preferences.
Still, you could get a small container of vegan protein powder if you think they could use it. Here’s a list of the best tasting vegan protein powders if you need help finding one.
5. Vegan Protein Bars
Protein bars are a safer bet than protein powder, because most of them taste pretty good, whereas powders are hit and miss.
Here’s a comparison of the best vegan protein bars to help you pick one they’ll enjoy.
6. Vegan Jerky
Vegan jerky is a great source of protein. It tastes great and is super convenient, but it’s also expensive so not many vegan athletes are buying it on a regular basis.
That makes a few bags of it a perfect gift that will be appreciated by the vast majority of vegan athletes.
The Game Changers is a fairly recent documentary that came out.
It features a variety of vegan elite athletes, and is much more enjoyable to watch than the typical vegan documentary that you might imagine.
8. Vegan Fitness Magazine Subscription
Not everyone likes magazines, but if you think your gift recipient does, gifting them a subscription to a magazine like Vegan Health and Fitness could be a nice gift.
