How to Feed a Dog With Vegan Food on a Budget

For an equal level of quality, vegan dog food is going to be more expensive than “normal” dog food.

There’s just less demand for it, so companies can’t manufacture it in the same quantities (gets cheaper the more you make).

But you do have a few options to lower the cost.

1. Monitor Online Stores for Discounts (and buy “damaged” food)

Veggie Pets is a store that sells vegan dog food like V-Dog (one of the best vegan dog foods) that is “damaged”.

So the packaging isn’t quite as nice, and maybe some of the kibble will be broken, but it brings down the price.

Almost all pet stores I’ve gone to offer sales on random products regularly. But you need to check frequently, and when vegan dog food goes on sale, buy as much as you think you can go through before it will expire.

2. Sort the Best Vegan Dog Foods By Price and Buy the Cheapest

I did several hours of research to create a guide to the best vegan dog foods.

All the foods mentioned on this page are high quality.

If you scroll down to the comparison tables, you can sort by price.

Dry food is typically cheaper than canned food, so choose that table since budget is a priority here.

As you can see, Nature’s Recipe and Natural Balance are both high quality, but relatively cheap for a vegan dog food.

Any Other Options?

There’s technically one other option: you can make your own.

I really don’t recommend it because I’ve read so many horror stories of dogs getting sick and even dying on homemade vegan food.

It’s hard to ensure that every batch has all the nutrients that dogs need, and while I understand that price is important, the risk isn’t worth saving a few dollars.
